Nursing home operator representative from Kerry says more protections needed for whistleblowers

A group representing nursing home operators says more protections are needed for whistleblowers.

The healthcare watchdog has suspended new admissions to a nursing home in Co Laois, which was featured in an exposé by RTÉ Investigates.

The programme showed multiple examples of care failings and neglect of vulnerable older residents, in two facilities operated by Emeis Ireland.

HIQA says inspection reports of the Residence Portlaoise and Beneavin Manor in Dublin are being finalised, and both centres have set out compliance plans.
