A number of streets and laneways in Tralee will be closed for a year as part of an upgrading project.
10 streets and laneways will be closed under Tralee Pavements Phase III project.
The streets will close on October 20th and will remain closed until October 19th next year inclusive.
The Tralee Pavements Phase III project involves the upgrading of Rock Street, New Road, Gas Terrace, Island of Geese Road, Bridge Lane and Bill Booley Lane by the provision of a shared space consisting of a level surface between the footway and the carriageway.
The council says this will enable pedestrians to move freely while reducing the priority of vehicles.
This project would involve the closure of the Island of Geese L-6728-2 and L-6728-0; Waterloo Lane (L-6728-1); Bridge Lane (L-10928-0); Gas Terrace (L-10929); New Road (R-551-673); Staughtons Row (R-551-673); Rock Street (R-551-673) and Bill Booleys Lane.
The council says there will be scope for the opening of partial sections these roads, depending on the location of the works. This will allow for limited access for public traffic during work periods which the council says would minimise impact to businesses and the Bridge Lane Taxi rank.
The council adds that provision will be made for taxis to continue to operate from Bridge Lane Rank for as long as possible and alternative arrangements will be made for taxis during works on Bridge Lane.
Traffic diversions will be in place for the duration of the works.
The council says there will always be south bound traffic on Rock Street and emergency service and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
