A Listowel man has been jailed for three-and-a-half years for arson.
48-year old Corvin Rode Griffin of 7 Cloverfield Estate, John B Keane Road in Listowel appeared before Judge Alec Gabbett in Tralee Circuit Court.
The case arose from an incident on 11th June 2025 at Cloverfield Estate, in which his mother’s home was set ablaze and sustained approximately €100,000 in damage.
Judge Alec Gabbett said there were a number of circumstances which had to be considered when deciding the sentence.
He said Mr Rode Griffin was disgruntled at being removed from the home and seemed to have an attitude of “If I can’t have it, no one can”.
He said the fire took place at night, with a consequent increased risk to life.
Approximately €100,000 worth of damage was done to the semi-detached house, but the judge said the lives of those in the adjoining house were also put in danger.
He said Mr Rode Griffin’s poor and complicated health was a mitigating factor.
Judge Gabbett sentenced him to four-and-a-half years in prison, with the last twelve months suspended for five years.
The imprisonment was backdated to the 13th June 2025, when Mr Rode Griffin was taken into custody.
