A man has been remanded in custody charged in relation to alleged arson estimated to cost around €100,000 in North Kerry.
47-year-old Corvin Rode Griffin of 7 Cloverfield Estate, John B Keane Road, Listowel appeared in Listowel District Court today.
Corvin Rode Griffin is charged with one count of arson on June 11th at 7 Cloverfield Estate, John B Keane Road, Listowel.
The court heard that when charged the accused replied “yeah it is the right charge. It is a mistake, it is private property belonging to me and my mother”.
The State estimates around €100,000 worth of damage was caused and the court was told there may be further charges brought.
Corvin Rode Griffin is being represented by solicitor Padraig O’Connell, who made an application for bail to be granted subject to conditions including that his client would abide by a curfew and would sign on at his local Garda station.
Mr O’Connell stated his client had the presumption of innocence, however, the State objected to bail given the seriousness of the offence and the strength of evidence.
The State also stated the accused was on bail when this alleged offence was committed.
Judge David Waters refused bail and remanded the accused in custody to Cork Prison.
He will appear before Tralee District Court next Wednesday via videolink.
