No funding has yet been allocated for overlay works in Cahersiveen, which have been described as a being in a shockingly bad state.
Independent councillor Johnny Healy-Rae sought a timeline for these works for Cahersiveen town at the recent Kenmare Municipal District meeting.
He told the council the condition of this street was the worst in Ireland.
The proposal for the pavement improvement in Cahersiveen was approved by Transport Infrastructure Ireland last year.
The council says ground investigation surveys to inform the design were completed in the town in November 2023.
Cllr Johnny Healy-Rae asked Kerry County Council if this project would be completed next year.
He said the street was dangerous as it’s sloping and he says lorries are complaining that it’s swaying their load in towards the kerb.
The council told him this project wouldn’t be done in 2026 as it currently doesn’t have a funding allocation from TII and that elements of the design are still awaiting approval.
Senior engineer for the MD Pádraic Teahan told Cllr Healy-Rae that this project isn’t moving forward and unless it gets an allocation in 2026 or it is given the go ahead by TII, it’s unlikely to go ahead next year; he says it certaintly won’t go ahead in the first three quarters of next year.
Cllr Johnny Healy-Rae asked for Kerry County Council to bring the issue to the attention of TII again, saying there’s been no movement for a number of years despite the project having a design since 2023.
