Press Release An Garda Síochána Kerry, Kerry County Council, and Age Friendly Kerry Launch Initiative to Promote Respect for Older Drivers Reports to gardaí from older drivers about the behaviour they are experiencing from other drivers has increased recently where some older drivers are reporting uncomfortable or aggressive behaviour by others which can put them at risk and under pressure. In a new appeal to call on drivers to share the road with older drivers, both respectfully and responsibly, An Garda Síochána, Kerry County Council and Age Friendly Kerry have launched a joint campaign to raise awareness around the needs of older drivers and the onus on motorists to drive safely. At the heart of the campaign is a simple but powerful message: ‘Please Respect Older Drivers’, featured on newly designed car stickers being distributed as part of the initiative. An Garda Síochána Kerry, Kerry County Council, and Age Friendly Kerry have launched an initiative reminding all motorists to drive with patience and respect for older drivers.

New car stickers have been made available with the message to please respect older drivers, and reminds drivers to slow down, and be patient.

The initiative was officially launched at the Kerry Age Friendly – Older People’s Council Information Day in Tralee, the initiative highlights the value of independence, safety, and dignity for all drivers.

The new resource ties in with Positive Ageing Week and the lead-up to Irish Road Safety Week, which starts on Monday.
