Plans to expand the Dingle marina to double its current size have been approved.
The development was given the green light by An Coimisuin Pleanála and will allow the harbour to accommodate 125 boats.
In 2024, Kerry County Council granted planning permission to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine for a small craft harbour in Dingle marina.
The application received several submissions from locals, including concerns that the expansion would put too much pressure on the town’s tourism industry.
Having now received approval from the national planning body, the development is for 125 berth marina on a 6.5 acre site.
Permission was granted to dredge the sea bed to give the marina a depth of at least 3 metres.
The project will also include the installation anchoring piles, floating breakwaters, small craft-type pontoons, and walkways.
