There are reports of very poor visibility on roads by Waterville this evening, as Kerry Fire and Rescue Service works to bring a gorse fire under control.
A fire came within metres of homes in Saint Finian's Estate earlier this afternoon.
Two units of the Kerry Fire and Rescue Service, from Cahersiveen and Sneem fire brigades, are in attendance at the gorse fire in Waterville.
Some residents of Saint Finian's Estate rushed to empty their garden sheds of equipment because the flames were so close.
One local said that the area which is burning has not been worked for many years and is under furze bushes for as long as they could remember.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area as smoke is limiting visibility and creating potentially dangerous conditions.
There have been numerous wildfires in Kerry in recent days despite the annual gorse burning ban coming into effect on the first of March.
On Tuesday night, firefighters from Sneem, Caherciveen and Killarney fought back a large gorse fire from seven houses in Caherdaniel.
Kerry Fire Service also responded to furze fires in Scartaglin and Glanbeg on the same night.
