Mother of Tralee boy who underwent three scoliosis operations believes CHI should be disbanded
April, 2025 - 14-year-old Daniel Collins from Tralee who has been awaiting scoliosis surgery since he was diagnosed in July 2023.

The mother of a 15-year-old Tralee boy who had to undergo three scoliosis operations this summer believes Children's Health Ireland should be disbanded.

Daniel Collins was originally scheduled for one operation but needed two further procedures because he had been waiting so long - since February 2024.

The HSE recruited a new spinal surgeon last month (August) but Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll-McNeill says the HSE failed to recruit more.

She says the health service needs to find more spinal surgeons to work in Ireland.

Daniel's mother, Louise Collins, is not confident that any progress will be when Minister Carroll-McNeill meets with CHI this week about delays to scoliosis operations:
