Construction has begun on almost 500 homes in Kerry in the first six months of the year.
It marks a significant increase in house building activity in the county compared to last year, according to new data from the Department of Housing.
498 homes have been commenced in the first half of 2026 in Kerry, after 41 commencements in June.
That’s already a 167% increase on the number of homes commenced in all of 2025, which was just under 300.
If the trend for this year continues, there could be up to 1,000 homes commenced in Kerry by the end of 2026.
117 of the homes which have commenced this year in Kerry are one-off housing units.
172 of the homes have been part of larger housing developments, while 209 have been apartments.
30 commencement notices were sent to Kerry County Council in the month of June, indicating further activity in July.
