Minister for Children Norma Foley has welcomed the news that the families of children who attended North Kerry CAMHS were to receive the report this morning.
The minister, who’s a Fianna Fáil TD for Kerry, says it was a matter of respect that they were to get the report first.
Minister Norma Foley says there should have been better engagement with schools and families over proposed changes to SNA allocations.
Yesterday, Education Minister Hildegarde Naughton announced a pause to the review after concerns were raised by schools and families.
The department had insisted there was no overall reduction in special needs assistants nationally.
It said the review was to ensure that SNAs are allocated to schools to support students who have the greatest need for them.
Norma Foley, who’s a former minister for education, says the matter had caused trauma and distress to parents, students, and school staff.
