Kerry Minister of State hopes existing short-term holiday lets won't require planning permission

Minister of State Michael Healy-Rae says he hopes owners of existing short-term holiday lettings won't have to apply for planning permission when the law changes tomorrow.

Emergency laws coming into effect this Friday will expand current rent pressure zones (RPZ) to a nationwide rent control system.

Until now, Killarney was the only rent pressure zone in Kerry.

As a result, the requirement for short-term let properties in RPZs to have planning permission will apply nationwide.

Minister of State and Kerry TD, Michael Healy-Rae wants people already providing short-term lets to be exempt from the planning requirement.

He says he has no issue with people converting from long-term to short-term in the future to require permission:
