The Minister of State with special responsibility for fisheries and the marine,Timmy Dooley, has paid tribute to the Spanish fisherman who died off the coast of Kerry yesterday.
The man in his thirties passed away on board the trawler, the Nobo Alborada, 31-nautical miles off the coast of Valentia, before the Coast Guard could arrive.
Another man was brought to Cork University Hospital (CUH) in critical condition.
Junior Minister Timmy Dooley said he was deeply saddened by the tragic incident and that his thoughts and prayers are with the family of the fisherman lost at sea.
He also extended his "sincere hopes" for the full recovery of the other crew member who was seriously injured.
Junior Minister Dooley commended the "swift and courageous response" and the "dedication and professionalism" of the emergency services including the Coast Guard, coordinated from Valentia.
He stated the tragedy is a stark reminder of the dangers faced daily by those who work at sea, and of the bravery and skill of the men and women who protect them.
