A fisherman has died off the Valentia coast, and another man is seriously injured.
It's understood both men were injured when a rope snapped on board their boat, a Spanish fishing vessel.
Valentia Coast Guard received the alert from its counterpart in Spain at around 12 minutes past 9 this morning.
The coast guard says one man, who was in his thirties, died on board before rescue services arrived.
Valentia co-ordinated the rescue which involved the Coast Guard fixed-wing plane and two Coast Guard helicopters.
The other man, who's also in his thirties, has been brought to Cork University Hospital .
Valentia Coast Guard says conditions at sea were very challenging for the rescue operation; swells of up to six metres made lowering a winchman on to the vessel very difficult.
Arrangements are being made to transfer the body of the dead man to Castletownbere.
