Minister of State Michael Healy-Rae believes the population threshold relating to a ban on short-term lets should be increased.
New proposals around Airbnbs will mean short-term holiday lets can only operate for 90 days in areas with a population of more than 10,000.
This would impact on Tralee and Killarney and there are concerns about the implications for the tourism market.
Junior agriculture minister Michael Healy-Rae believes the threshold should have been set for populations sized between 15,000 and 20,000.
He says as this bill goes through Oireachtas committees, he’ll be arguing for an evidence-based approach to be taken.
