Cabinet approves new bill aimed at regulating short-term letting

The Enterprise Minister says new legislation to regulate short-term lets could bring 10 thousand beds back into the private rental sector.

Cabinet approved a bill by Peter Burke and Housing Minister James Browne, which would see planning permissions banned for short-term lets in towns with a population above 10 thousand.

The bill was brought to Cabinet a week later than planned, after some ministers expressed concern at the potential impact for tourism in some areas such as Kerry and Clare.
