Kerry TD Michael Cahill says he takes no satisfaction in replacing Deputy Danny Healy-Rae on the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture.
However, the Fianna Fáil TD says someone would have had to be appointed after the Kerry independent deputy lost his position.
He says it’s important that this county still has a representative on the influential group.
Michael Cahill left the Oireachtas Justice Committee earlier this year after he was convicted for driving at over 190 kilometres per hour on a motorway.
He now joins the Agriculture Committee after Danny Healy-Rae lost his position for voting no confidence in the Government last week.
Speaking to Jerry O'Sullivan on Kerry Today, Deputy Cahill says it's a challenging time for farmers.
