The Mayor of Kerry has called the decision to increase the speed limit at Castlecove ridiculous.

At the recent Kenmare Municipal District meeting, Cllr Patrick Connor-Scarteen said Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) increased the speed limit in the area after its last review.

He called on the council to insist that the TII reduce the speed limit on that stretch of the N70, as the decision to increase it was ridiculous.

Fianna Fáil Councillor Norma Moriarty added it's hard to understand why that decision was taken.

Kerry County Council replied that the limit in Castlecove will be raised with the TII at the beginning of the next review, which is scheduled for mid-2022.

Cllr Connor-Scarteen urged the council to ask the TII to change the speed limit now and not wait for the review in two years' time.
