Man dies following collision between vehicle and cyclist in South Kerry

A man has died following a collision between a vehicle and a cyclist in South Kerry.

The collision occurred on the R569 road at Church Grounds, Kilgarvan at lunchtime.

The road remains closed for a technical examination and diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following this fatal collision involving a cyclist and a vehicle.

Gardaí and emergency services responded to the scene at Church Grounds, Kilgarvan shortly after 1.40pm.

The cyclist, a man aged in his late 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner has been informed and a post-mortem examination will take place.

The road remains closed for a technical examination.

All drivers going to and from Kenmare need to travel via Killarney and Moll's Gap on the N71; Gardaí say this road is not suitable for heavy vehicle traffic.

Gardaí are asking any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling in the area between 1pm and 2pm to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Killarney Garda Station on 064 667 1160, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

Gardaí say their investigations are ongoing.
