A man accused of a spate of burglaries around Tralee is to seek bail in the High Court next week.
44-year-old Michael Coffey of Cnoc Gorm, Tralee, was before Tralee District Court this morning via video link from Cork Prison.
He faces charges including burglary, theft, possession of stolen property and possession of drugs.
Mr Coffey is charged with four separate burglaries between August 3rd and August 7th at properties in Tralee at Oakview, Clounalour, Cloonbeg and St Brendan’s Park.
He also faces two counts of theft from motor vehicles on August 7th, at the North Circular Road, Tralee, and the Brandon Car Park, and a further charge of possession of stolen property at the Brandon Car Park in Tralee.
It’s alleged that the 44-year-old also entered two motor vehicles at Clounalour and a vehicle in the Brandon Car Park on August 7th.
He also faces charges of possession of cocaine at the Abbey Car Park on February 3rd 2024; and drink driving, driving without insurance and driving without a licence on Ashe Street on January 1st last year.
He appeared at Tralee District Court via video link from Cork Prison, and his solicitor Pádraig O’Connell advised him to say nothing.
Sergeant Stephen O’Brien said directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions are awaited, and bail was refused on his last appearance.
Mr O’Connell said his client is seeking bail in the High Court, and that application is listed for next Thursday.
Judge Marie Keane remanded Mr Coffey in continuing custody to 28 August for DPP directions via video link.
Mr O’Connell said this was by consent, subject to the High Court.
