Listowel gardaí say they have received a litany of reports from people about a mobile phone scam relating to the Department of Social Protection.
Members of the public have been getting calls from people posing as officials in the department who claim the person's PPS number is compromised.
The scammers then ask the person to confirm their PPS number, name and in some incidences their bank account details.

Both Listowel gardaí and the Department of Social Protection are urging people not to engage with these callers, adding that such financial details would never be requested over the phone.
