A man who told Tralee court he is John Lennon allegedly covered his garda cell in excrement and assaulted a garda while in custody.
47-year-old Corvin Rode Griffin, of 7 Cloverfield Estate, John B Keane Road, Listowel, already faced a charge of arson, but now faces two further charges.
He appeared in person at Tralee District Court this morning before Judge Treasa Kelly.
Mr Rode Griffin was brought into Tralee District Court earlier today, where Garda Keith Nolan said he had been further charged with two charges.
Mr Rode Griffin continued to speak while Garda Nolan spoke in court, and his solicitor Pádraig O’Connell said his client is a constant disruptive influence.
He already faced one charge of arson, arising from an incident where he allegedly caused €100,000 worth of damage to a property in Cloverfield Estate, Listowel, on June 11th.
He is now further charged, that on the same date, at Listowel garda station, he assaulted a garda.
The court was told that when Garda Nolan put this charge to him, Mr Rode Griffin replied, “Sorry for kicking the garda”.
He is also charged that on 13th June, he threw toilet paper on the floor of his cell in Listowel garda station, and proceeded to cover the cell in his excrement; this is a charge of criminal damage.
Sergeant Chris Manton told the court that the DPP has already directed Mr Rode Griffin face trial on indictment in relation to the arson.
He was granted bail in the High Court, but has not been able to meet the requirements; Mr O’Connell said the issue for his client is providing an address, but he is actively looking.
Judge Kelly remanded him in custody with consent to bail, to appear again at Tralee District Court via video link on 3rd September.
As he left the court, Corvin Rode Griffin said, “It’s not Rode anyway, it’s Mr John Lennon”, to which his solicitor Mr O’Connell replied, “More like a Beatle”.
He had previously told the court his name is Corvin Schnable.
