Bank of Ireland is to donate a new statue of Kerry stateman Daniel O’Connell to Leinster House.
It's part of state commemorations marking the 250th anniversary of The Liberator's birth.
Daniel O’Connell, from Derrynane near Cahersiveen, was born on 6th August 1775, and went on to lead the movement for Catholic emancipation.
The Catholic Emancipation Act, officially the Roman Catholic Relief Act, granted political and civil rights to Catholics in Ireland and Great Britain.
In 1835, Daniel O'Connell founded The National Bank of Ireland to 'preserve the banking system in this country from politics'.
