A local Labour representative says it’s unfair a student could lose out on third level grants due to having availed of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment.

Ben Slimm, who’s from Tralee, says students weren’t able to work because of the lockdown and closure of hospitality and retail over the past few months.

He says many who availed of the payment are now finding it’ll impact on their SUSI grant for the upcoming academic year.

The Labour party member says the government needs to address this issue before it’s too late, adding it’s unfair a student could lose out on an essential grant because they accepted the unemployment payment.
