Kostal has confirmed its decision to transfer production of its on-board charger (OBC) products out of Ireland.
Kostal employs a large number of people at its plan in Abbeyfeale, and has had a presence in Ireland since the early 1980s.
Last month concerns were raised that workers in the West Limerick plant would be compulsorily laid off.
Kostal issued a statement today saying the company recently completed a review of business viability at its Abbeyfeale site.
It says the decision was made to transfer production of its on-board charger or OBC products out of Ireland; these are units that allow electric cars to charge from the electricity grid.
Last March, it was confirmed that 85 workers at the plant had taken voluntary redundancy, after demand for OBCs had been lower than expected.
Kostal Ireland met with trade union representatives and other employees yesterday to update them about the ongoing planning for the transfer of OBC production from Abbeyfeale.
They were informed that engagement with key customers about transferring OBC production is ongoing, and the work of the international project team assigned to manage the transfer process is continuing.
Kostal Ireland says it remains committed to informing employees at Abbeyfeale as soon as further details about the business transfer become available.
Kostal has been present in Ireland since 1981 and a spokesperson for the company say it remains committed to acting in a fair, balanced and constructive way as the company navigates the current challenges facing the automotive industry.
