Growing concerns that workers will be laid off at Kostal in Abbeyfeale

There are growing concerns that workers will be compulsorily laid off by Kostal in Abbeyfeale.

Many Kerry people are employed in the West Limerick plant, but the scale or timeline of any layoffs are not yet known.

In March, it was confirmed that 85 workers at the plant had taken voluntary redundancy, following the news that demand for On-Board Chargers (OBCs) for electric cars, which are made at the factory, has been lower than expected.

Management undertook a financial review on the feasibility of continued OBC product at Abbeyfeale.

There are now worries that OBC production will be transferred to Kostal China, but there is still no clarity on what this means for Kostal’s Abbeyfeale workforce.
