Work on Killorglin playground is set to begin in September or October, subject to contractor availability.
Kerry County Council made the announcement in response to a question from independent councillor Podge Foley.
The playground, developed in 2006 with Kompan timber play equipment and rubberised wet-pour safety surfacing, is due for refurbishment.
Council management says the safety surfacing in both the junior and senior areas is now beyond economical repair, following the expiry of its warranty and significant deterioration.
The estimated cost of replacing the surfacing is €72,500, including VAT.
Funding has been secured, and the project is currently at the procurement stage.
The playground will also be repainted during the closure, weather permitting.
