Killarney councillors have voted to proceed with amended plans for a major active travel upgrade.
The proposed N22 MD O’Shea roundabout to Ballycasheen Road Upgrade includes road surface improvements and improved pedestrian and cyclist laneways.
It also includes the removal of what’s known as Daly’s roundabout at the Park Road junction, and the installation of traffic lights at that junction and at other points further down towards Ballycasheen.
At a special meeting Killarney councillors also moved to relocate an existing pedestrian crossing at this location to a more optimum area over 120metres from the junction.
This was after a motion to completely remove the pedestrian crossing was defeated by 5 votes to 2.
Members also voted to widen queuing lanes on the N22 on the approach to the junction from the Cork side to 3.3metres.
Five members of Killarney Municipal District voted in favour of adopting the proposals as amended, with independent councillor Maura Healy-Rae opposing.
