A Killarney councillor claims there are council units which have been sitting empty in the town for years.

Labour councillor Marie Moloney made the claim at the municipal district meeting, when she brought a motion asking the council if it owns properties at the Reeks Gateway in the town.

Councillor Marie Moloney asked if Kerry County Council owns property at the Reeks Gateway and, if so, what is it being used for.

Also, she asked if it can be used as a working hub for those who wish to work remotely and do not have sufficient broadband to enable them work from home.

Councillor Moloney said she believes the units have been sitting idle for some time and it's a crying shame.

The council said it owns office property at the Reeks, which it believes was transferred when the town councils were abolished in 2014.

It's understood the units are unfinished, however, the council said it intends to retain them as they could be needed for staff.
