The Killarney Community Nursing Unit has finally been handed over to the HSE.
That's according to information released to Cork South Central TD, Pádraig Rice.
Work on the 130-bed unit, including 30 dementia specific beds, started in 2022, and has experienced long delays.
Its construction was part of a multisite Public Private Partnership (PPP) project, delivering seven Community Nursing Units (CNU) nationwide.
The total cost of the seven units is €250 million, including construction, finance, maintenance, and services like cleaning, caretaking, security and waste management.
The HSE will pay €25 million per year over the 25 year contract.
The unit must be approved for registration by HIQA before it can open to patients.
