Kerry's opposition TD is calling for clarity on the roll-out of the Hot School Meals Scheme.

The scheme was supposed to provide children with one hot meal per day, with funding allocated directly to schools, that then sourced and paid their suppliers.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) highlighted food safety regulations to the Schools Procurement Unit (SPU).

A statement from department says it's working on solutions for schools in Kerry where a provider has delayed hot meals or withdrawn altogether:

Sinn Féin TD Pa Daly says procurement and food safety issues must be addressed at some schools before the scheme can be rolled out:

Meanwhile, Deputy Daly says his party needs to have a candidate in place or to have declared support for an independent candidate before the Ploughing Championships begin on September 16th.
