A Kerry TD says poor policing is putting road users at risk.
Sinn Féin TD Pa Daly was responding to the recently published Crowe Report on roads policing.
The report stated that most members of the Garda Road Policing Unit are are “productive, professional and focused on improving road safety”.
However, it claimed that there is a “noticeable” minority who are not.
Deputy Daly claims successive governments have failed to resource road safety properly, allowing poor performance to go unchecked.
The Sinn Féin’s transport spokesperson highlighted cases of Gardaí avoiding work or turning off number plate recognition systems.
Deputy Daly says road safety and local road maintenance must be made urgent priorities.
