Kerry TD claims funding shortfalls are causing delays in apprenticeships

A Kerry TD has said that funding shortfalls are forcing ETBs to defer apprenticeship courses, despite record numbers enrolling.

SOLAS confirmed a rise to 17,800 apprentices this year, but SIPTU warns there's not enough money to meet demand.

Sinn Féin TD for Kerry, Pa Daly, criticised the government for failing to plan properly, saying some apprentices now face delays of up to a year.

While SOLAS have stated that the courses have been deferred, not cancelled, the Kerry TD said that this is not good enough.

With a major housing push underway, Deputy Daly says it's unacceptable that key training for construction workers is being held back.
