A Kerry TD has criticised the government for what he describes as a failure to build a 21st century energy grid that is fit for purpose.
Speaking after an Oireachtas Climate, Environment and Energy Committee hearing, Deputy Pa Daly warned that grid constraints are causing major delays in housing projects across the country.
He condemned the “first come, first served” grid connection system, which he says allows data centres to outcompete housing developments.
The Sinn Féin spokesperson for Climate, the Environment and Energy plans to introduce legislation that would prioritise housing in grid connections and improve energy demand forecasting.
He called on the government to invest in a fairer, more modern grid to help solve Ireland’s worsening housing crisis.
