Kerry TD is calling on the government to urgently intervene in rising household energy costs.

SSE Airtricity, Bord Gáis Energy, Pinergy, and Energia, have all announced price increases, with bills set to jump more than €200 a year.

Sinn Féin TD Pa Daly says households are already paying the highest electricity prices in Europe, despite wholesale costs falling.

He has accused the energy companies of "rampant profiteering", and criticised the Government for not giving the CRU .{Commission for Regulation of Utilities} power to hold them account.

The Sinn Féin spokesperson for energy is calling for urgent action to rein in energy companies.

He also feels that large energy users, such as data centres, should pay their fair share of the energy costs involved in their running.
