A Kerry man who used to live in Venezuela expects the death toll there to surpass 10,000 fatalities.
Eamon Stack, who is originally from Tralee, lived in Venezuela for three years in the 90s but still has family and friends in the South American Caribbean country.
235 people are known to have died in two deadly earthquakes which struck on Wednesday evening in quick succession.
Venezuelan authorities expect that figure could rise sharply with more than 50,000 people reported missing.
Mr Stack lived in the capital city, Caracas, and has gone back over the years to visit.
