A Kerry man who lost his wife to a rare and aggressive form of cancer says it was disappointing to see DJ Carey falsely claim he had the disease to defraud people.
The 54-year-old five-time All-Ireland hurling winner with Kilkenny admitted defrauding 13 individuals by falsely claiming he had cancer and needed money for treatment, between 2014 and 2022.
Kerry man David Walsh has recently created the Beatrice Pembroke Walsh Foundation, in memory of David’s late wife Beatrice from Castleisland, who lost her life to an aggressive and extremely rare form of cancer.
The foundation will fund research into this form of cancer, called Leiomyosarcoma (LMS), and already raised €350,000 at its first fundraising event last weekend.
David Walsh says it’s disillusioning to see someone like DJ Carey, who he admired, deceive people in this way.
