Kerry man seen throwing thousands of euro at motorists  granted bail

A Kerry man who was arrested after he was spotted by off-duty gardaí throwing thousands of euro in cash at motorists has been granted bail.

36-year-old Gavin Keane of Greenville, Listowel appeared before Galway District Court this week (Monday).

He was granted bail on strict conditions including that he signs on daily at Listowel Garda Station, and observes a curfew.

Judge Elizabeth Healy remanded him to appear again at Galway District Court on July 13th.

 

Gavin Keane was charged earlier this month by Det Garda Shane O’Driscoll of Listowel Garda Station with the theft of €120,000 in cash and a Hewlett Packard laptop worth €800 from Mac Fuels and General Supplies Ltd, Clieveragh, Listowel, on April 16th.

Garda Ray Cassidy of Mill Street Garda Station, Galway charged him with two drug offences of possessing cocaine and possessing cocaine for sale or supply at Skerritt Roundabout, Dublin Road, Galway on April 18th.

He was also charged with three public order offences including resisting and impeding a garda in the course of his duty, being intoxicated in a public place to such an extent he was a danger to himself or others, and engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour.

Mr Keane was charged with a seventh offence under the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act 1990, namely that he had in his possession at Skerritt Roundabout, Dublin Road, Galway on April 18th a glass bottle for use in causing injury or incapacitating a person.

Judge Elizabeth Healy made it a condition of his bail that he reside at Greenville, Listowel, sign on daily at Listowel Garda Station and keep a daily curfew between 10pm and 6am.

She also made it a condition that he have no contact directly or indirectly or via social media with the injured party in the case and that he provides gardai in Listowel and Galway with a mobile phone number by which he can be contacted 24/7.

He must also notify gardaí in writing of any change of address or any other application to vary the conditions of his bail.
