A man has appeared in court in relation to the theft of €120,000 in cash in Listowel.
36-year-old Gavin Keane of Greenville, Listowel appeared at Galway District Court yesterday (Wednesday) in relation to the theft of cash as well as a laptop worth €800.
It’s alleged these were stolen at Clieveragh, Listowel last Thursday, April 16th.
Mr Keane was arrested after he was spotted throwing thousands of euro in cash at motorists in Galway.
Gavin Keane had appeared at a special sitting of Galway District Court last Sunday where he was charged by Detective Garda Shane O’Driscoll of Listowel Garda Station with the theft of €120,000 in cash and a Hewlett Packard laptop from Mac Fuels and General Supplies Ltd, Clieveragh, Listowel, on April 16th.
This followed his arrest at Skerritt Roundabout, Dublin Road, Galway on Saturday, April 18th.
Mr Keane had been spotted by off-duty gardaí throwing thousands of euro in cash at motorists passing the roundabout.
The 36-year-old was also charged with two drug offences, namely both possessing cocaine and possessing cocaine for sale or supply at Skerritt Roundabout, Galway on April 18th.
Gavin Keane was also charged with three public order offences including resisting and impeding a garda in the course of his duty, being intoxicated in a public place to such an extent he was a danger to himself or others, and engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour.
He was also charged with a seventh offence under the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act 1990, namely that he had in his possession at the roundabout a glass bottle for use in causing injury or incapacitating a person.
Mr Keane was granted free legal aid at the court sitting on Sunday.
He appeared at Galway District Court again yesterday where he was remanded in continuing custody to Castlerea Prison to appear in court again on April 27th.
