A Kerry County Councillor is calling for a change to be made to the SUSI grant rules to support students who change courses.
Independent councillor Jackie Healy-Rae is calling on the Minister for Education to urgently review the SUSI grant progression rules.
Cllr Jackie Healy-Rae says students should not be financially penalised for changing their course of study in the early years of their higher education.
He is proposing that students be allowed one course change within the same National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) level without losing their SUSI eligibility, provided they are progressing through the new course.
