Kerry County Council opened almost 550 planning enforcement cases since January last year.
The figures were provided to Independent councillor Brendan Cronin at the recent monthly meeting of Kerry County Council.
Cllr Brendan Cronin sought details of how many enforcement cases were initiated by Kerry County Council since January 2024.
He also asked the council what the planning enforcement issues of these cases were and what the court’s final decision on each case was.
In response to his motion, Kerry County Council stated 547 cases of alleged unauthorised development have been opened by the Planning Enforcement Section since January 2024.
Of these, the council says 20 files have been referred to the legal department within Kerry County Council, with instruction to prepare legal proceedings under Section 160 of the Planning & Development Act 2000 as amended.
Kerry County Council says Section 160 proceedings have issued in seven cases since January 2024.
These relate to the construction of dwellings, sheds and signage as well as renovations and change of use of sites without planning permission.
Some of these seven cases have been resolved and closed, while others are ongoing.
