A Kerry county councillor is urging the government to launch a public information campaign about how the IPAS system works in this country.
Fianna Fáil councillor Fionnán Fitzgerald raised the issue by way of a motion at the recent meeting of Kerry County Council.
He says there is a vacuum of information about how the system works for people seeking international protection here, especially around what applicants are entitled to.
The motion was seconded by Fine Gael councillor Angie Baily, meaning the council will write to the Minister for Justice to request an information campaign be launched.
The Fianna Fáil councillor says this vacuum is having very real and dangerous consequences.
