Kerry CAMHS whistleblower says Irish Medical Council panel has approved her reinstatement to practice

The consultant who exposed the Kerry CAMHS scandal says an Irish Medical Council panel has approved her reinstatement to practice in this country.

Dr Maya Sharma exposed the over-medication and inappropriate treatment of patients at South Kerry Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.

Her concerns were upheld by subsequent reviews which found hundreds of children had been harmed or put at risk of harm.

Dr Maya Sharma who settled a lawsuit she had taken against the HSE, has been living homeless in the UK; she says she’s been unable to find work because of her whistleblowing.

Dr Sharma hopes to return to Killarney to open a private practice for children, which would charge clients on a sliding scale based on income.

She submitted an application to practice again in Ireland; an adjudication panel of the Irish Medical Council met to consider this on April 28th.

Dr Sharma says the news is positive.

The Irish Medical Council says it cannot comment at this time as the matter refers to an individual doctor.
