An application to practice again in Ireland by the consultant, Dr Maya Sharma, who exposed the Kerry CAMHS scandal is due to be heard today.
Dr Sharma’s reinstatement is due to be considered by an adjudication panel of the Irish Medical Council.
Dr Maya Sharma, when she was a consultant at the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in Kerry, exposed over-medication and inappropriate treatment of patients.
Her concerns have been upheld by subsequent investigative reports.
Dr Sharma who settled a lawsuit she had taken against the HSE, has been living homeless in the UK; she says she’s been unable to find work because of her whistleblowing.
Dr Sharma told the Irish Mail on Sunday that she wants to re-register with the Irish Medical Council and hopes to return to Kerry to open a private practice for children, which would charge clients on a sliding scale based on income.
The Irish Medical Council says as the matter relates to ongoing regulatory processes regarding an individual doctor, it’s not in a position to comment at this time.
