Kilgarvan road remains closed after death of cyclist in his 70s in crash

The road between Kilgarvan and Kenmare remains closed this morning after a crash in which a cyclist in his 70s died yesterday.

The collision between a car and a bicycle happened around lunchtime yesterday afternoon on the R569 at Church Grounds, Kilgarvan, and the cyclist, a man aged in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the crash, or anyone with information or dash cam footage, to come forward.

The road remains closed this morning and it’s believed it will remain closed for much of today.

All drivers going to and from Kenmare must travel via Killarney and Moll's Gap on the N71; gardaí say this road is not suitable for heavy vehicle traffic.

Gardaí state that Kilgarvan is also not  accessible from the Cork-Killarney route.
