A man is due to be sentenced tomorrow for taking delivery of packages of cannabis after seeing an Instagram advert for easy money.
25-year-old Ethan Hillier of 10 Ard Bhearna, Kenmare, appeared before Judge Alec Gabbett at Tralee Circuit Court.
He had pleased guilty to three charges relating to the possession of cannabis for sale and supply.
The packages, containing nearly 2kg of cannabis arrived at An Post's international sorting office from Thailand, addressed to Mr Hillier in January 2024.
The drugs had a total street value of almost €40,000 (€39,360).
Four days later, an undercover detective, disguised as a postman delivered to Ms Hilliers' mother's home in Kenmare.
Mr Hillier mad a full admission during his second interview with Gardaí.
He told investigators that he was acting as a middle man, taking possession of the cannabis and then he was to be informed via Instagram where he was to deliver the drugs.
In exchange, he was to be paid just short of €800.
Defending council Séamus Roche asked Judge Gabbett not to give Mr Hillier a custodial sentence as it was an exceptional circumstance.
Mr Hillier had not come to the attend of the Gardaí before or since the incident.
Mr Roche said Mr Hillier was very young at the time but has not been in trouble since and is now engaged to be married.
He is to appear before Judge Gabbett again at Tralee Circuit Court tomorrow for sentencing.
