Judge will consider marking case against Killarney meth accused peremptory after five-month delay

A District Court judge has said he will consider marking peremptory the state’s case against a woman accused of running a meth lab in Killarney.

Anna Entrambasaguas of Knocknasartnett, Killarney, faces seven charges following a garda raid at her address in October, during which a number of items were seized.

She has been refused bail twice in the district court, and once in the High Court, meaning she has now been on remand in custody for five months.

Ms Entrambasaguas is accused of the possession of crystal meth for sale or supply, the possession of forged driving licences, and a machine designed for making fake IDs.

The court previously heard she allegedly had all the items required for a meth lab in her home.

She was refused bail at her first court appearance in November, then again in the High Court, and again at a sitting in Tralee District Court last month, which heard more charges will be brought against her in relation to liquid meth seized from her shed valued at around €6,000.

At Tralee District Court yesterday morning, Judge David Waters confirmed that these new charges were not yet before the court.

Sergeant Chris Manton said he is still awaiting formal directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Ms Entrambasaguas’ solicitor Brendan Ahern said she will be applying to the High Court again for bail, given the fact it has been five months since that court refused bail the first time.

Mr Ahern said there has been no significant update on the case and his client is now waiting almost six months for the case to be progressed.

Judge Waters said he would allow Ms Entrambasaguas to be remanded in custody for another two weeks, but at the next court appearance he will need a specific, detailed update from the state.

Judge Waters added that he will entertain an application from Mr Ahern to mark the case peremptory in two weeks, depending on whether there’s a bail application pending in the High Court.

If the case is marked peremptory, it means that it cannot be adjourned again and will have to proceed on the next appearance, or it will be struck out.
