Japanese Knotweed survey underway

A survey of locations where an invasive plant has been detected is underway.

Japanese Knotweed must be specially treated to remove it and Kerry County Council is currently preparing a tender for a contractor to eradicate the plant from regional roads.

The council also says that an advance contract will be undertaken to treat invasive species found along the preferred route of the Farranfore bypass.

This will limit the risk of spreading the plant during construction.

The issue was discussed following motions by councillors Fionnán Fitzgerald and Seamus Cosaí Fitzgerald.
