Plans to increase the frequency and speed of trains between Cork and Dublin will benefit passengers in Kerry.
That’s according to the corporate communications manager with Irish Rail, Barry Kenny.
He says the long-term target for the Cork-Dublin service is to make it a 90-minute route.
Mr Kenny believes the improvement works on this line will create more services and trains to Kerry in the future.
He confirmed Íarnród Éireann will meet with local representatives on proposed plans at Farranfore train station.
Barry Kenny says Irish Rail hopes to roll out more frequent rail services to Kerry down the line.
Meanwhile, due to ongoing upgrade works, a rail replacement bus will be in place between Mallow and Cork this weekend.
Passengers travelling on this route to or from Kerry are advised to check the Irish Rail website for updates.
