The Irish Haemochromatosis Association is holding a free information evening in Tralee next month.
Haemochromatosis, also known as ‘iron overload’, is the most common genetic disorder in Ireland - with one in five people carrying the gene.
Ardfert GP, Dr John Casey, will give advice on the symptoms, testing, diagnosis and treatment of haemochromatosis for anyone interested in finding out more.
It's estimated there are at least 20,000 undiagnosed cases in the county.
Symptoms can include chronic tiredness, joint pain, abdominal pain and sexual dysfunction.
Early diagnosis is vital because if left untreated, haemochromatosis can lead to organ damage or even premature death.
The event will take place at 7 o'clock on Tuesday evening, 5th March at The Rose Hotel, Tralee.
